We transformed an outdated and inefficient piece of kitchen equipment into an easy to use, energy conscious device. We analyzed the workflow, built interactive simulations, and moderated research sessions throughout the iterative design process with the goal of making the UI as efficient as possible. The HD UHC is the heart of McDonald's kitchen, and it's never had such a healthy and vibrant pulse.

Ashland’s engineers had an abundance of chemical knowhow. Their business groups were searching for new ways to turn a profit. We led the effort that bridged the gap between the two groups. We conducted observational research sessions to learn more about the people who use their products and uncover opportunities for new revenue streams. These sessions fueled the generation of dozens of design concepts, several of which are now in the development pipeline.

The i1 is Motorola's first Push-To-Talk Smartphone. We worked with the Motorola team to develop the user experience from the ground up, covering functionality across all core applications for this Android-based solution. The result is a streamlined device with a fresh take on multi-tasking, combined with the rugged dependability PTT users have come to know.

Caveat Sittor (Sitter Beware) is a warning to be wary of where one chooses to sit. This chair has a sharp tack placed in the center of the seat, giving pause to those who are in need of a place to rest.

In this case, the warning is a false one as the tack is nothing more than a mirage. This visual trickery is created using a pair of parabolic mirrors and a tack, all of which are hidden within the seat of the chair. The simple, pedestal-like aesthetic of the chair acts as a stage for, and brings focus to, the deception of the tack mirage.

The chair, itself a blank slate, has a trap door underneath that allows customization of the illusory object, providing an opportunity to customize the experience. Depending on the subject of the mirage, the chair can elicit a variety of emotions, ranging from surprise, to fear, or even repulsion.

The CHS group at Motorola had lost Walmart as a retail partner and was struggling to get SKUs placed with other accounts as well. The challenge was to create a compelling line of products while meeting the aggressive timelines for sales meetings and manufacturing targets. We created a new brand direction and designed 80% of their cordless phone offering over the next 2 years. In addition to addressing the products, we also created sales tools to assist Motorola with their line reviews.

The results included multiple CES awards, the winning back of the Walmart account, and a valuable increase in shelf presence with their retail partners.

HP’s Digital Imaging Group was interested in joining the portable projector market and looked to us to turn those interests into a tangible product. We defined this new market segment using a combination of personas, usage scenarios, and trend research as the innovation drivers.

This forward-thinking project won over HP’s business teams, and convinced them to venture into what has become a $6BB market.
